Shahjahanpur, 9th May 2023: In a shocking incident, a government school teacher has been accused of beating a student so severely that the child lost vision in one eye. The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur on January 27. However, the police did not file an FIR against the teacher until May 4.

The child, identified as Saurabh Kumar, unintentionally scratched the teacher’s car while visiting his brother’s school in Harseli town, in the Nigohi block. This infuriated the teacher, Shruti Singh, to the point that she physically assaulted the student, causing him to lose vision in one eye.

Furthermore, Saurabh’s parents, who are daily wage earners, claimed that after Shruti Singh thrashed their son, the area around his left eye swelled. They hoped it would heal in a day or two, but as his vision became increasingly hazy, they took him to the hospital in Pilibhit and then to Lucknow. The doctor informed them that surgery would be required because a blood clot behind his eye had caused swelling. However, there was no assurance that his vision would return.

Dhananjay Singh, SHO of Nigohi police station, said, “During the preliminary investigation and physical inspection carried out by the chief medical officer, we found the allegations to be true.”

Ankur Tripathi, district president of the teachers’ association, said, “We want a fair investigation in this case. Action should be taken only after evidence is found against the accused teacher.”

An investigation is underway, and we can hope that justice will be served. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of providing children with safe and nurturing environments in schools and that teachers must be held accountable for their actions.
