Vaccine Trials For Children To Begin In Pune

Pune, 28 June 2021: The vaccine trials for children aged between 2 to 18 will begin in July. These trials will be held at Bharati Hospital and KEM hospital in the city. Serum Institute of India has produced Covovax vaccine for children.

A three-phase trial has been planned for the vaccination. In the first phase children aged between 11 to 18 will be covered, in the second phase, six to 10 years will be covered while in the third phase two to five years will be held.

The trials will check the efficacy and safety. The test results might take five to six months.

Serum Institute has produced Covovax which has been produced by Novovax company in the US. It has also applied to the Centre for starting the trials.

“Trials will be conducted on 920 children across the country in which for the first phase children from 11 to 18 will be tested. Every centre will test 100 children”, said KEM researcher Dr. Ashish Bavdekar.
