Vaidehi , Vaishnavi go down fighting in opener at 22nd edition of NECC Deccan ITF 50K Women’s Tennis Tournament

Pune, January 23,2024: Wildcards Vaidehi Chaudari , Vaishnavi Adkar went down fighting in the opening round at the 22nd edition of NECC Deccan ITF 50K Women’s Tennis Tournament being organized by Deccan Gymkhana and sponsored by National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) under the auspices of the ITF, AITA and MSLTA and played at the Deccan Gymkhana Tennis Courts

In the first round eighth seeded ranked 240 Tatiana Prozorova of Russia came back from the loss of the first set to down wildcard Vaidehi Chaudhari ranked 501 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 in a 2 hour 40 minute battle

151 ranked and second seed Anastasia Tikhonova was tested by local girl and wildcard Vaishnavi Adkar before winning 6-3, 7-6(7) in a 1 hour 48 minute match , Adkar stroked well on both flanks and led 5-4 and had a couple of set points , she also had set points in the tiebreaker but couldn’t hold on and went down 7-9 in the tiebreaker.

In a match involving third wildcard and local girl Madhurima Sawant Dutch player Anouk Koevermans out powered Madhurima 6-2, 6-1 .

Third seeded Indian pair of Rutuja Bhosale and Ankita Raina made it to the quarterfinal in the doubles event edging out Anouk Koevermans and Russian Ekaterina Yashina 6-4,4-6,10-5

The tournament was earlier inaugurated by MLA Siddharth Shirole, Mr.BSR Shastry, GM of NECC, Mr.Vishwas Lokare, VP of MSLTA, Mr.Sunder Iyer, Hon Secretary of MSLTA, Former India No 1 Tennis Player and former Fed Cupper Radhika Tulpule-Kanitkar. Mr.Girish Inamdar, General Secretary of Deccan Gymkhana, Mr.Mihir Kelkar, Finance Secretary of Deccan Gymkhana, Mr.Ashwin Girme, Tennis Secretary of Deccan Gymkhana, ITF Supervisor Sheetal Iyer were present on the occasion.
