Violence Erupts as Pune Authorities Take Action Against Street Vendors
Warje, 21st March 2023: A team from the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Anti-Encroachment Squad, which had gone to take action against unauthorized fruit and vegetable vendors, was attacked by a mob with bamboo on March 19 around 6 pm near NDA road in Warje. The incident left one assistant inspector injured. The Warje police have arrested four people in connection with the case.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Navnath Balasaheb Wanjale (32), a resident of Warje; Rohan Malhari Malshikhare (18), a resident of Shivne; Subhash Maruti Bodke (40), also a resident of Shivne; and Ganesh Gorba Humbare (30), a resident of Bibwewadi. The assistant inspector from the anti-encroachment squad has filed a complaint at the Warje Police Station.
According to the police, the assistant inspector and his team had gone to the NDA Road area of Warje to take action against unauthorized street vendors. While they were removing their carts, the mob started abusing the vendors and eventually attacked the team, injuring the assistant inspector. The police sub-inspector Abhijit Kale is investigating the matter.
