Wagholi, 9th May 2023: A joint action was taken today by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), PMRDA, and Public Works Department (PWD) to clear several encroachments within 15 meters from the divider of Pune-Ahmednagar highway in Wagholi.

This action was taken to ease traffic congestion on the highway, which has been a persistent problem due to encroachments. The encroachments of food and fruit stalls that were collecting rent without any connection with the local place were also removed.

The action targeted concrete structures, tin sheds, boards, and stalls that were causing obstruction within 15 meters from the highway divider.

Some citizens expressed the expectation that the municipal corporation should take precautions to ensure that the area remains free. The action was taken under the guidance of municipal assistant commissioner Somnath Bankar.

There were concerns regarding whether the encroachments related to a political leader’s office along the highway would be spared, but the authorities did not listen to the leader’s negotiation and took action against both encroachments.

To make this action useful, it is necessary to break the footpath and make a lane available for traffic immediately. Otherwise, the encroachments might reappear, and the same problem would recur.
