Want Free Tree Saplings in Pune? Week-Long Distribution Drive Begins in Viman Nagar
Viman Nagar, 5th June 2026: Marking World Environment Day, the Pune City Environment Front of the Republican Party of India (A) and NPlants Tree Conservation Foundation jointly launched a week-long environmental awareness and native tree conservation campaign, pledging to distribute 2,000 free native tree saplings to citizens across Pune.
The programme was held at NPlants Nursery & Landscape Services, near Ganpati Mandir Chowk, Viman Nagar, Pune 411015, under the guidance of Nilesh Rajendra Rokde. The initiative was inaugurated by Balasaheb Janrao, Maharashtra Secretary of the Republican Party of India (A), in the presence of former Pune Deputy Mayor Parshuram Wadekar, Hulgessh Chalwadi, Shyam Sadafule, Firoz Khan, Akshay Avasarmal, and several dignitaries, office-bearers, environmental enthusiasts and volunteers.
As part of the event, participants undertook tree plantation activities and spread awareness about environmental conservation, biodiversity protection and the importance of preserving native tree species.
The week-long campaign will run from June 5 to June 11, during which citizens can collect free saplings from NPlants Nursery & Landscape Services in Viman Nagar. The nursery will remain open daily from 10 am to 7 pm. Each visitor will be provided two to three saplings free of cost to encourage plantation and long-term care.
The saplings being distributed include a wide range of native and environmentally significant species such as Banyan (Vad), Peepal, Neem, Tulsi varieties, Tamarind, Mango, Guava (Peru), forest trees and several other indigenous plants suitable for Pune’s climate.
Speaking on the occasion, Nilesh Rajendra Rokde said, “Environmental conservation is not the responsibility of the government alone; it is a collective duty of every citizen. Native trees play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity, improving air quality and preserving ecological balance. Through this initiative, we aim to encourage every family to plant and nurture at least a few trees. The response from citizens over the years has been extremely encouraging, and we hope to make an even greater impact this year.”

Organisers said the foundation has been conducting tree conservation and sapling distribution activities for several years and has consistently received enthusiastic participation from citizens. The initiative is aimed at promoting a greener and healthier urban environment through community involvement.
Citizens interested in obtaining free saplings or participating in the campaign can contact Nilesh Rokde on 9922063449 or Priyanka Rokde on 90111 30813 for further information.
