Pune, 29th April 2203: The Zilla Parishad is focusing more on solid waste management this year. Various measures are being taken for this. A large amount of garbage is found in the public places of the village. Therefore, under the Center-sponsored Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) phase two, implementation is underway at the rural level for the components of individual and public toilet construction, solid waste, sewage management, etc.

Against this backdrop, the Zilla Parishad will implement a garbage-free campaign in all villages from 1st May.

Necessary publicity will be done at the village level to make the village garbage free. It includes public awareness and punitive action in case of littering and the gram panchayat should inform about the same in the gram sabha or monthly sabha.

For the waste-free campaign, expenditures should be made from Swachh Bharat Mission, 15th Finance Commission, MGNREGA, National Biogas and Fertilization Programme, District Annual Plan, Corporate Social Responsibility, Innovation Scheme, People’s Representative Development Fund, Gram Panchayat Fund, and Zilla Parishad Fund, while spending the funds according to the respective scheme.

Ayush Prasad, Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad informed that it will be mandatory for the Gram Panchayat to comply with the terms, conditions, and criteria mentioned in the relevant government’s decision.

He further stated that Gram panchayats with high populations, pilgrimage sites, and tourist spots near the city should select external organizations or companies for waste collection, classification, transportation, and processing at the village level.

Ayush Prasad also said that monthly or annual rates under health tax or other taxes should be decided and finalized in the gram sabha for the concerned organization to levy per family fee for project maintenance repair, and manpower salary.
