New Delhi, 29th April 2023: May is expected to be scorchingly hot in many parts of India, which might put a burden on the electricity grid, harm the economy, and endanger people’s lives.

The east-central and eastern regions will have monthly maximum temperatures that are above average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Additionally, it will get hotter in the Northeast.

India is not the only country suffering from terrible heat this year. While China’s Yunnan province is experiencing a drought, temperatures have been rising in Thailand and Bangladesh.

The weather agency forecasts normal to slightly below normal temperatures for portions of northwest and west-central India in May.

The IMD anticipated that El Nino, a climatic phenomenon linked to drier conditions and less rainfall in India, will occur during the upcoming monsoon season. However, the emergence of favorable Indian Ocean Dipole conditions may counteract this and lead to an increase in monsoon rainfall.
