Water Crisis in Mundhwa–Keshavnagar: Ajit Pawar Tells Officials to Act Against Builders
Hadapsar, 14th September 2025: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar began his visit to Pune at 6 am on Sunday with a series of inspections across the city. His first stop was the Mundhwa–Keshavnagar flyover, followed by checks at the Mundhwa traffic signal and Hadapsar railway station.
During the tour, several citizens approached Pawar directly to voice grievances related to water shortage, illegal liquor sales, and traffic congestion.
Builder Warning Over Water Shortage
Residents of Mundhwa and Keshavnagar complained that many housing societies have been struggling without proper drinking water supply.
Responding to the complaints, Pawar issued a stern warning to builders and directed civic officials to act immediately.
“If citizens are facing water problems, stop the work of the builders. If people have purchased flats and builders are enjoying themselves without fulfilling responsibilities, take whatever action is necessary,” Pawar instructed officials on the spot.
He also called Pune Municipal Corporation’s Water Supply Department officer Nandkumar Jagtap to Hadapsar railway station for an urgent review. Citizens told him that the water shortage in the Mundhwa area has persisted for several months.
Warning Against Illegal Liquor Sales
Apart from water issues, citizens also highlighted the rampant sale of illegal liquor in Mundhwa and Keshavnagar. Taking serious note, Pawar cautioned those involved in the trade. “You should be wise and stop the illegal liquor sales business,” he warned.
Traffic Grievance Sparks Heated Exchange
Traffic congestion was another major issue raised by residents. A woman citizen told Pawar, “You should also go around like Manohar Parrikar used to do to check traffic. Come without informing anyone and then you will understand the real problem. We ask questions and you give answers, but that is not the solution.”
Pawar appeared surprised when she mentioned Parrikar and asked, “Who is Parrikar?” The woman promptly replied, “Minister of Goa.” She added that officials cannot remain unaware of daily traffic troubles and urged him to personally witness the situation.
Citizens’ Voices, Ajit Pawar’s Response
The interactions reflected growing frustration among residents of Pune’s rapidly urbanising suburbs, particularly over basic amenities and civic issues. Pawar assured them that he has “come to work” and promised action, but citizens pressed him for accountability and on-the-ground inspections.
