Woman Arrested For Duping Pune Jewellers With Fake Gold

Pune, 9th May 2023: Pune police have arrested a woman who allegedly duped several goldsmiths in the city by passing off fake gold as genuine.

The accused has been identified as Sakshi Avinash Soni, a 32-year-old resident of Sheth Premji Jivan Sanatorium near Pune station. She is a native of Itarsi in Madhya Pradesh.

The Khadak police station received a complaint from a jeweller in Ganesh Peth, stating that Soni had cheated some goldsmiths in the area by pretending that the fake gold was real.

A photograph of Sakshi was circulated on a social media group of jewellers. She was identified when she came to sell fake gold and a jeweller alerted the police.

According to police, Soni had cheated three to four businessmen of Saraf Bazar. She had given fake gold to the Sarafi Pedhi and tried to buy a mangalsutra in return. The police immediately detained her.

The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for cheating and fraud. The police are investigating the case further to determine if there are more people involved in the scam. Police sub-inspector Rahul Jog is leading the investigation.
