Pune woman duped of Rs 98,994 while booking restaurant table online

Pune, November 12, 2019: Beware while booking a table at restaurant, online. The Pune City Police have registered an FIR based on complaint from a woman who was cheated of Rs 98,994 while trying book table at a restaurant.

As per the case registered with Dattawadi police station, the incident took place on November 3. The 29 year old woman wanted to book a table at a restaurant. She found a phone number online for booking the table. However, the person who received the call asked her to pay Rs 25 as advance fee to book a table. She was asked to pay through UPI app. The accused sent her a link and asked her to input her UPI pin in the link for making the payment and soon Rs 98,994 was deducted from her SBI account linked to the UPI.

Police have registered the FIR against the unidentified accused for offence under section 419 (impersonation), 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.

Police have appealed people not to share any OTP or password with anybody.
