4500 make Pune Women’s Half Marathon a success
Pune, March 10, 2019 – The third edition of Pune Women’s Half Marathon (PWHM), which started with the idea to remind each woman of her right to be healthy and fit, was flagged off on Sunday. A total of 4,500 women ran the marathon.
The Chief Guest,Neena Saini, co-ordinator for AWWA, as well as the Regional President AWWA Southern Command, flagged off the 4 km run. Sangeeta Lalwani, Chairperson FICCI FLO and Secretary of Freerunners Charitable Trust flagged off the 21 km run and Javed Pansare, PWHM 2019 Race Director, flagged off the 10 km run.
The race started from Superintendent of Police (Pune rural) police office on Pashan road. With 3 categories to choose from, women from diverse backgrounds and of various ages, ran either a half marathon ie 21 km, 10 km or 4 km.
In the 10 km category, 1st place went to Vinaya Malusare, who finished the run in 39:23 minutes, Swati Basu Vhanwade came 2nd at 40:17 minutes and Yamini Umesh Thakre came 3rd with a finish time of 42:48 minutes. The half marathon, that is, 21 km saw Kavitha Reddy in 1st place at 1:36:38 hours,Himangi Godbole in 2nd place at 1:55:59 hours and Archana Oak in 3rd place, at 1:57:09 hours.
The marathon theme for 2019 was “My Revolution”, where each woman decided on a revolution in her life, to keep herself healthy, fit and happy. Managed mainly by women from all phases of life, the marathon was one ‘for the women, by the women and of the women’.
PWHM’s message to each individual, especially the women is: ‘a healthy life’ begins with taking care of yourself (physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually), and only then can you care for the others.
