Pune Police Auction 962 Abandoned Vehicles Under Maharashtra CM’s 100-Day Clean-Up Drive

Pune, 8th April 2025: As part of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ “100 Days Program” aimed at cleaning and beautifying government premises, Pune City Police have successfully auctioned 962 abandoned or derelict vehicles that had been occupying valuable space across police stations and branches for several years.
The clean-up and auction campaign was initiated after an inspection by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar revealed that junked vehicles were cluttering premises of police stations and, in some cases, spilling over onto public roads, inconveniencing citizens and complainants.
Following the Chief Minister’s directive, Pune Police’s Traffic Branch coordinated efforts to identify, publicize, and auction these long-abandoned vehicles. The auction was conducted through the Metal Scrap Trade Corporation (MSTC) on March 19, 2025, using an e-auction platform. Vehicle removal and scrapping commenced on April 7 and will be completed by April 13, 2025.
Speaking about the initiative, Manoj Patil, Additional Commissioner of Police (Eastern Region), said, “This drive has not only freed up critical space at our police stations but also helped improve the environment and accessibility for citizens visiting the premises. Our aim was to ensure that police stations are seen as clean, welcoming places—not junkyards.”
He added, “The process was carried out transparently by publishing notices and making efforts to trace owners. Only after receiving court orders for disposal of truly unclaimed vehicles did the auction take place.”
A total of 39 police units, including police stations, crime and traffic branches, participated in the initiative. The entire operation was carried out under the guidance of top police officials including Joint Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Commissioners Pravin Patil, Arvind Chawaria, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic Branch) Amol Zende. Traffic Police Inspectors Mahesh Bolkotgi and Sunil Gavali coordinated the exercise.
The drive marks a significant step toward better resource management and public service under the CM’s ambitious 100-day transformation mission.
