Pune Among Top 10 Cities in India for Extramarital Affairs, Says Survey
Pune, 16th August 2025: Marriage, long regarded as a sacred bond of trust and loyalty in India, is undergoing a dramatic shift. A recent report by dating platform Ashley Madison has revealed a startling rise in extramarital affairs across the country, with smaller cities joining metros in topping the list.
Kanchipuram Emerges as New Hotspot
Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu, better known for its silk sarees and historic temples, has now earned an unexpected tag—it has emerged as the city with the highest number of extramarital affairs in India. The June 2025 Ashley Madison report shows Kanchipuram jumped from the 17th position last year to the first spot this year.
Delhi-NCR Dominates the List
The national capital region has also featured prominently in the rankings. Nine districts from Delhi-NCR made it to the top 20 list. Why Pune is in the Spotlight
Pune’s unique mix of students, IT professionals, and migrants, coupled with its growing nightlife and multicultural atmosphere, has been cited as a key reason for the city’s ranking. Experts suggest that emotional distance, long working hours, and changing social norms are contributing factors that push couples to seek companionship outside marriage.
Changing Relationship Dynamics
Sociologists and relationship experts point out that the hectic lifestyle in metros, increasing reliance on social media, and growing exposure to OTT content—which often glamorizes extramarital affairs—are normalizing such relationships. Many individuals, dissatisfied emotionally or seeking renewed romance, are using dating apps and online platforms specifically designed for married people.
Broader Social Shift
The findings reflect a deeper transformation in Indian society, where traditional definitions of marriage and loyalty are being challenged by personal choices and digital influence. From smaller temple towns like Kanchipuram to cosmopolitan hubs like Pune and Bengaluru, the concept of relationships is visibly changing.
