Kalyani Nagar, 10th September 2025: A late-night dispute outside Elephant & Co. Restaurant and Bar in Kalyani Nagar turned violent on Sunday when a patron allegedly attacked a bouncer after being denied entry.

The incident took place between 9.30 pm and 10.30 pm, police said. A group of youngsters who had come to the pub were refused entry by the staff, which led to an argument. The quarrel escalated outside the premises, where one of the men allegedly hit a bouncer.

Videos of the scuffle, recorded by bystanders, circulated on social media soon after and showed aggressive behaviour by members of the group.

Following the incident, bouncer Mayur Madhukar Phadtare (27), a resident of Pune, lodged a complaint at Yerawada police station. Acting on his statement, police registered an FIR against Akhil Ashok Kumar (27), a resident of Vadgaonsheri, and his associate Kyle Edward Cummins (24), of Pirangut, Mulshi Taluka.

They have been charged under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing hurt and for committing the act together with common intention.

Police teams rushed to the spot after receiving a call and brought the situation under control. No major injuries were reported. The investigation is currently underway.

Adv. Todkar, representing Kyle Cummings and Kumar, has alleged that both were denied entry and later manhandled by bouncers and some unidentified persons at Elephant & Co., Kalyani Nagar. “It is claimed that the bouncers, including one identified as Mayur Fadtare, pushed and assaulted them, along with others who allegedly issued threats and used abusive language. Despite this, a complaint was filed against Kyle and Akhil at Yerwada Police Station. The victims have now sought legal action against the bouncers and unknown persons. The matter has also drawn attention on social media, raising concerns about safety at nightlife venues in Pune.”
