DTE Appoints Observers to Monitor Engineering College Admissions in Pune
Pune, 11th September 2025: The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has appointed observers for 32 engineering colleges in Pune following complaints from students and parents regarding alleged violations of admission rules.
After the regular rounds of first-year engineering admissions conducted by the CET cell concluded, reports emerged that admissions to vacant seats—particularly under the management quota—were being carried out without adhering to prescribed norms.
The observers have been tasked with monitoring the admission process and submitting detailed reports to the DTE to ensure transparency and compliance with established rules.
Deputy Joint Director (Incharge) Maruti Jadhav said, “The institute-level admission process for the academic year 2025–26 for undergraduate engineering (B.E/B.Tech) courses is being conducted from September 8 to 15. Observers have been appointed to ensure that admissions are carried out transparently, strictly based on merit, and in accordance with Rule No. 13 of the Admission Information Brochure published by the State CET Cell, Mumbai.”
Since all four rounds of the Common Admission Procedure (CAP) have concluded, colleges are required to follow the rules outlined in clauses 13 and 15 of the brochure when filling vacant CAP and management quota seats.
Kalpesh Yadav, Joint Secretary of Yuva Sena, Maharashtra, said, “It was observed that some college administrations were violating admission rules, charging exorbitant fees, and granting seats to students from affluent families.” Yadav also submitted evidence of these irregularities to the DTE.
In response, the DTE decided to appoint observers in colleges across the Pune and Nagpur divisions. Dr. Dattatray Jadhav, Joint Director of Pune Division, and Dr. Manoj Daigavane, Joint Director of Nagpur Division, issued circulars directing that admission reports, along with supporting documents, must be submitted to the office.
The circulars emphasize that “observers must be physically present during institute-level admissions to verify that the process follows clause 13 of the Admission Information Brochure. A detailed report, including all necessary documentation, must be submitted by September 16,” the notices stated.
The DTE has also urged students and parents to report any instances of injustice during the admission process to the appointed observers.
