Pune, 13th September 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai, has issued a Yellow Warning for multiple districts across Maharashtra, including Pune, alerting residents of possible thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the next few hours. The advisory, issued at 1600 hrs IST, remains valid for a three-hour period.

According to the IMD’s nowcast updates, light to moderate spells of rain accompanied by thunder and gusty winds are likely to affect isolated areas in Pune, along with districts such as Latur, Solapur, Sambhaji Nagar, and Satara. Residents in these regions are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions, particularly in low-lying or open areas.

Widespread Alerts Across Maharashtra

Several other regions in the state are also under similar Yellow Warnings:

Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), including Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburbs, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and Ratnagiri, may witness moderate spells of rain with the possibility of lightning and gusty winds.

North Maharashtra districts like Nasik, Jalgaon, and newly formed Ahilyanagar, as well as Sindhudurg and Kolhapur, are likely to experience light rainfall with chances of thunderstorms and strong winds.

Marathwada and adjoining central districts—including Hingoli, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Sangli, Nanded, and Dharashiv (Osmanabad)—are expected to be hit by thunderstorms with wind speeds reaching 30-40 kmph, accompanied by moderate rainfall and lightning.

IMD Advisory and Safety Measures

The IMD has urged citizens across all warned districts to:

Avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms.

Stay indoors as much as possible.

Secure loose outdoor items and avoid open fields.

Stay updated through official weather channels and follow local authority guidance.

In Pune, light to moderate rainfall has already been observed in isolated pockets. While no severe disruption has been reported so far, residents should remain cautious, especially during evening hours when weather conditions may change rapidly.
