New Delhi, 29th October 2025: Tech giant Amazon has announced another major round of layoffs, impacting 14,000 corporate positions globally as the company undergoes a large-scale restructuring to align with its artificial intelligence (AI)-driven transformation plans. The job cuts represent about 4% of Amazon’s 3.5 lakh white-collar workforce and have sent ripples through the global corporate and tech sectors.

According to reports, between 800 and 1,000 corporate employees in India are likely to be affected in this latest round. The layoffs are expected to impact departments such as finance, marketing, human resources, and technology — particularly roles reporting to Amazon’s global teams. Industry insiders suggest that the number could increase as the company continues cost-optimization measures across its businesses.

While the move comes amid rising operating costs and slower growth in certain retail divisions, Amazon officials have described it as part of a strategic restructuring rather than a response to an economic downturn. The company said the decision is driven by the need to streamline operations and embrace AI as a key driver of future growth.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and Senior Vice President Beth Galetti called the AI transition the company’s biggest shift since the advent of the internet, emphasizing that new job opportunities will be created in emerging areas like artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and robotics.

Experts, however, caution that as Amazon continues to automate its operations using advanced AI systems, as many as 30,000 jobs could eventually be impacted worldwide. The restructuring follows Jassy’s earlier directive to simplify internal hierarchies, enhance ownership, and reduce bureaucracy across teams.

Despite the layoffs, analysts and brokerage firms remain optimistic about Amazon’s long-term prospects, noting that its aggressive AI adoption strategy could strengthen its position in the global technology landscape.
