Pune: SPPU, Baburaoji Gholap College Host Constitution Guidance Workshop Ahead of Constitution Day
Pune, 25th November 2025: The Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), in collaboration with Baburaoji Gholap College, organised a Constitution Guidance Workshop on Tuesday ahead of Constitution Day, which is observed on November 26 every year. The workshop aimed to promote constitutional awareness among students and highlight the contributions of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.
The inaugural session was attended by Prof. Dr. Vilas Adhav, Head and Director of the Department of Lifelong Studies and Economics at SPPU; Dr. Sangeeta Jagtap, Principal of Baburaoji Gholap College and Member of SPPU’s Management Council; Dr. Sangita Salve, Head of the Department of Economics at Arvind Telang College; Vice-Principal Dr. Vandana Pimple; Head of the Department of Political Science Dr. B. L. Rathod; faculty members, non-teaching staff and students.
In his keynote address, Prof. Dr. Adhav guided students through the life and legacy of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, covering his academic accomplishments, political journey and pivotal role in drafting the Indian Constitution. He underscored the importance of understanding the foundations of the Constitution to strengthen democratic values.
Dr. Sangita Salve, speaking on the topic The Indian Constitution, stressed the need to cultivate constitutional literacy among students. She urged them to read, understand and adopt the principles of the Constitution in daily life. She emphasised that India’s unity and social harmony are rooted in the strength of its constitutional framework. On behalf of the Dr. Tanaji Salve Foundation, she distributed copies of the Indian Constitution to students, teachers and staff.
Delivering the presidential address, Principal Dr. Jagtap encouraged students to honour their fundamental duties and respect the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. She highlighted the importance of performing civic responsibilities with integrity while understanding India’s administrative and judicial systems.
In the second session, Kedar Deshmukh from The Unique Foundation shared insights on the Indian judiciary, discussing landmark laws, key judicial decisions and contemporary challenges. Advocate Manda Gaikwad focused on women’s rights under the Constitution, elaborating on legal provisions, ongoing issues related to atrocities against women, and mechanisms for protection and justice.
The event was planned by Principal Dr. Jagtap along with Dr. B. L. Rathod, Prof. Rajendra Bhoiwar, Prof. Prajakta Kumbhar and Prof. Neha Bhaule. Heads of various departments, faculty members and students attended the workshop in large numbers.
