Maharashtra Govt Plans Special Tribunal to Address IT Professionals’ Workplace Grievances
Pune, 19th March 2026: The Maharashtra government is planning to establish a dedicated tribunal to handle workplace grievances of IT professionals, State Labour Minister Akash Fundkar informed the Assembly on Wednesday.
The announcement came in response to a question raised by Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap, who highlighted the challenges faced by employees working in the Hinjewadi IT hub and called for a formal grievance redressal mechanism for the sector.
Jagtap pointed out that more than 1,000 fresh graduates were allegedly cheated last year by a fraudulent IT recruitment agency operating from Hinjewadi. He said the government had intervened after complaints surfaced and constituted a Special Investigation Team to examine the case.
According to the MLA, while Pune’s IT industry provides employment to lakhs of professionals, many workers face issues such as job scams and layoffs carried out without proper procedures. He said employees have been demanding an institutional mechanism where they can formally raise work-related grievances and seek timely resolution.
Responding to the concern, Fundkar said the labour department currently attempts to resolve disputes by facilitating discussions between IT companies and affected professionals. If such mediation efforts do not succeed, the matters are typically referred to labour or industrial courts.
He added that the government is now considering the creation of a separate tribunal to address such complaints more efficiently. Once the proposal is finalised, steps will be taken to expedite the process of setting up the tribunal.
