Pune, 31t January 2023: Lakhs of students from every corner of the country come to study at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) every year. Aspiring students from rural areas try to complete their education by working through the ‘Earn and Learn Scheme’.

At SPPU, students are paid Rs 45 per hour. This stipend has been given since 2017, and there has been no increase in it so far. On the one hand, the prices of food in the university have increased, and admission and examination fees have increased, but still, it is seen that there has not been any increase in the remuneration of the Earn and Learn Scheme.

Anil Shastri, a student at Pune University, raised the question about where the poor students should go as the prices are increasing, and the remuneration received by the students should also increase.

Many students work in this scheme, but due to low remuneration, the essential needs of education are not met. Considering all these factors, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Pune University President Mahadev Ranga has demanded an increase of Rs 10 per hour in the remuneration received by the students. ABVP will stage a severe agitation if the students’ remuneration is not increased.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Sanjeev Sonawane assured the students that this demand will be considered positively and the administration will take the right decision.
