Air India Plane Crash: One Passenger Survives Catastrophic Air India Tragedy; 241 Dead; Investigation Underway

Ahmedabad, 12th June 2025: A devastating tragedy struck Ahmedabad on Thursday (12th June) as an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff, killing 241 people onboard. In a miraculous turn, one passenger survived the crash and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. The survivor has been identified as Ramesh Vishwas Kumar, who was seated in 11A. Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik informed that the survivor’s condition remains critical.

Among the passengers was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. The ill-fated flight was carrying a total of 242 people, including 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian. Initial recovery efforts at the crash site have yielded around 100 bodies so far. However, many of them are charred beyond recognition, posing significant challenges for identification.

Authorities are now relying on DNA testing to identify the deceased. Dhananjay Dwivedi, Principal Secretary of Health, confirmed that arrangements have been made at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital to collect DNA samples from the relatives of the victims. A special facility has been set up at the Kasoti Bhavan within the hospital premises for this purpose.

Emergency services, including forensic teams and disaster response units, continue their efforts at the crash site, while a full investigation into the cause of the crash is expected to follow.
