New Delhi: The Union Government ordered all Internet Service providers (ISPs) to block Porn websites on their networks as these sites that screen adult content have a negative influence on today’s youth. The Uttarakhand High Court has directed all the ISPs to follow the Union Government’s order.
After Jio banned porn websites on its network, the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) has ordered all the other ISPs including Vodafone, Airtel, Idea Cellular and BSNL to ban a total of 827 porn websites on their networks too.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) issued an order to the DoT in which it said, “All the internet service licensees are instructed to take immediate necessary action for blocking of 827 websites as per the direction from Meity and for the compliance of the Hon’ble High Court order.”
Soon all ISPs will be blocking over 800 porn websites. This will definitely disappoint users that were thinking of porting their numbers to Airtel or Vodafone.
India is not the first country to block websites with adult content. Over 22000 porn websites are banned in China.
