Jhansi, 7th July 2025: In a remarkable display of courage, presence of mind, and medical expertise, Major Rohit Bachwala, a serving Army medical officer, saved the lives of a woman and her newborn in an emergency delivery at the Jhansi Railway Station. The incident, which took place on July 5, has been widely hailed, with the Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, personally commending Major Rohit for his exceptional service.

According to Army officials, Major Rohit, who was travelling on leave from Military Hospital Jhansi to his hometown Hyderabad, was at the railway station when he noticed a woman in severe distress near the lift area. She had fallen from a wheelchair and was in advanced labour.

Without hesitation, Major Rohit jumped into action. Using improvised resources—a towel, knife, and hair clips—he successfully conducted an emergency delivery on the platform. The baby was unresponsive at birth, but Major Rohit quickly performed resuscitation procedures and revived the infant.

His task was not over yet. The woman developed complications related to the placenta post-delivery, but Major Rohit managed the situation calmly using his clinical judgment and makeshift protective measures, ensuring both the mother and child were stabilised before being shifted to a government medical facility.

In a statement, General Dwivedi praised Major Rohit’s heroism, saying, “His act reflects the highest standards of military service and selfless commitment. Major Rohit demonstrated exceptional professional acumen under extreme pressure, and his actions are a matter of pride for the entire Armed Forces.”

The Army Medical Corps has also lauded Major Rohit for his swift, life-saving intervention in a non-clinical and resource-constrained environment.
