New Delhi, 19th July 2023: Chaudhry Muhammad Zaka Ashraf, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee, on Wednesday, the spotlight will illuminate Lahore as it unveils the highly anticipated schedule and coveted trophy of the 2023 Asia Cup edition. The much-awaited event will take place at 7:15 PM (Pakistan time) at the Pearl Continental Hotel in Lahore. Cricket enthusiasts around the world can witness the entire event through a live stream on PCB’s official YouTube channel.
The complete schedule of Asia’s premier tournament will be made public after months of anticipation. According to the initially agreed hybrid model, Pakistan will host four matches, while the remaining nine games will be played in Sri Lanka. India, on the other hand, will compete in all their matches, including the knockout stages if they qualify, in Sri Lanka only.
When Zaka Ashraf assumed the role of Chairman, there were speculations about potential changes in the hybrid model, but both the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) assert that the original arrangement remains unaltered.
During the ICC annual conference in Durban, ACC Chairman Jay Shah and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah met with Zaka Ashraf, discussing the Asia Cup and the upcoming 50-over World Cup in India later this year.
Reports in the Pakistan media suggested that Jay Shah had accepted Zaka Ashraf’s invitation to visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup fixtures, but both Jay Shah and Arun Dhumal, who was also present in Durban for the ICC Chief Executives Meet (CEC), refuted these claims, calling them completely false.
Furthermore, the discussion between Jay Shah and Zaka Ashraf also touched on the 50-over World Cup, and it appears there are no surprises in store regarding the schedule, with Pakistan scheduled to play their fixture against India in Ahmedabad.
