Bhubaneswar, 6th May, 2023: The loco pilot and assistant loco pilot of the Coromandel Express who were involved in the serious accident on June 2 have narrowly defeated death, and are in a stable condition, receiving medical treatment.

On June 2, a tragic train disaster occurred in Odisha’s Balasore district, and Hazari Behera, a 36-year-old assistant loco pilot driving the Coromandel Express, managed to barely avoid death. Behera is now being treated at the Bhubaneswar AMRI Hospital.

The pilot’s family was upset that false information about his purported demise was being spread by the neighbourhood media after the tragedy. The media is unaware that such misleading reports can have a significant negative impact on the families of the injured, according to Behera’s wife, who spoke to The Hindu.

His co-worker, Coromandel Express loco pilot Gunanidhi Mohanty, is likewise in a stable condition and was transferred out of the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Monday.

The families of both train drivers have urged that everyone respect their privacy and give them time to heal physically and mentally.

According to records, the train disaster near the Bahanaga Bazar station in the Balasore district, some 250 km south of Kolkata and 170 km north of Bhubaneswar, was the fourth deadliest in India. This incident prompted the Railway Ministry to launch a probe.
