Pune, 27th January 2026: In a formal representation to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), BJP City Vice President and Corporator Manjusha Deepak Nagpure has requested a significant realignment of the proposed Khadakwasla to Kharadi Metro Line 4.

In a letter addressed to the Municipal Commissioner dated December 8, 2025, Nagpure has urged authorities to scrap the plan for an elevated corridor along the main road and instead explore an alternative route via the Mutha riverbed or the canal side.

Citing the ‘Sinhagad Road Trauma’

While welcoming the approval of the Metro’s second phase as a necessary solution for the city’s transport woes, Nagpure raised red flags regarding the construction methodology. She drew attention to the recent hardships faced by citizens during the construction of the Sinhagad Road flyover.

“For the past several years, citizens have faced immense suffering, pollution, and traffic jams due to the flyover work. Daily life and businesses were completely disrupted,” the letter states. Nagpure warned that constructing an elevated Metro line on the main road would multiply this distress and impact the city center significantly.

The Riverbed Alternative

The Corporator has proposed shifting the alignment to run alongside the Mutha river or the canal. She outlined several benefits for this alternative:
Faster Execution: Construction could proceed rapidly without obstructing existing road traffic.
Minimal Land Acquisition: It would bypass the need for acquiring expensive land in busy commercial zones.
Aesthetic Preservation: Avoiding an overhead structure on the main road would prevent “uglification” and help preserve Pune’s historical and natural heritage.
Call for Immediate Action

Describing the Khadakwasla-Kharadi route as a vital “lifeline” for the city’s East-West-South connectivity, Nagpure requested an immediate feasibility test for the river/canal route.

“Keeping the experience of Sinhagad Road residents in mind, it is essential to check the feasibility of the alternative route immediately to minimize trouble during construction,” the letter concluded.
