Born Out of Courage: A Mother’s Battle in the Heart of India

Pune, 10th June 2025: In a quiet tribal settlement in Jharkhand, 28-year-old Meera Devi was eagerly awaiting the birth of her first child. Seven months into her pregnancy, life felt full of promise, until everything changed on a single, terrifying night.
Meera suddenly experienced excruciating abdominal pain. Her family rushed her to the nearest health center, but the symptoms were beyond what the small clinic could handle. Later, a medical assessment revealed a high-risk condition, a rare placental complication that endangered both her life and her unborn child.
The situation was critical. She needed specialized care to survive the delivery. But Meera’s family, like many in rural India, lived hand-to-mouth. The cost of advanced treatment was far beyond their means. There was no backup or financial safety net.
That’s when a local community volunteer reached out to the IGF-India, a non-governmental organization dedicated to creating a healthier, more inclusive, and sustainable future.
Upholding IGF’s vision and consistently delivering on its objectives, IGFINDIA.ORG outreach team reached out to a wide network of high-net-worth individuals. Thanks to this collective mobilization, the funds needed for Meera’s treatment were arranged in no time. She was swiftly transferred to a specialized facility where doctors prepared for a high-risk delivery.
The surgery was complicated. But when it was over, Meera heard the sound she had feared she might never hear – the tiny but strong cry of her newborn daughter. Both mother and baby had made it through.
Today, Meera says, “I gave birth to a daughter, but IGF-India gave me the chance to have her in my womb and raise her.”
This story is more than a medical miracle, it’s a window into what’s possible when people, intent, empathy, and timely action converge. In a world often divided by differences, Meera’s story is a reminder of what unites us – the instinct to protect life and the power of timely, collective action.
Because sometimes, saving one heartbeat means saving two.
