Ottawa, 3rd October 2023: In an earnest endeavor to improve the increasingly strained diplomatic relations between India and Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed the ongoing dispute on Tuesday. Trudeau expressed Canada’s desire to prevent further deterioration of relations with India while emphasizing their commitment to engaging with New Delhi responsibly and constructively. He underscored the significance of maintaining constructive ties with India amid a diplomatic dispute triggered by the killing of a Khalistani separatist.

Speaking to reporters in Ottawa, Trudeau also stressed the importance of having Canadian diplomats actively present in India. He acknowledged the current challenging state of relations, stating, “We are going through a very challenging time with India at the moment.”

The diplomatic rift escalated when Justin Trudeau made a statement last week, implicating the Indian government in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. He announced Canada’s intention to investigate whether Indian agencies were involved in Nijjar’s murder.

India responded strongly to Trudeau’s claims, expressing displeasure and firmly rejecting the accusations. The Modi government characterized Trudeau’s assertions as absurd and politically motivated.

The efforts of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to repair diplomatic ties with India reflect the significance of fostering strong international relationships and resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.
