Central Railway Medical team working 24×7 for handling Corona Pandemic
Pune, 16 July 2020: The Medical team of Central Railway is working on war footing in the fight against COVID19. Looking at the COVID19 pandemic situation worldwide with outbreak in India too, Railway Hospitals of Central Railway started preparation before imposition of lockdown.
Intensive and repeated training of Doctors and staff were conducted including ventilator workshop, Donning and Doffing of PPE, Infection Prevention & Control Measures, Protocols for management etc. as per the latest guidelines of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Indian Council for Medical Research & World Health Organization.
To fight the coronavirus epidemic, the need of doctors and para-medical staff for the care of patients in hospitals of Mumbai, Nagpur, Bhusaval, Pune and Solapur divisions of Central Railway, the Medical Department has appointed Medical Officers, Nursing Sisters and other technicians on contract basis. So that there is no shortage of doctors and para medical staff on any division of Central Railway in this crucial time.
Development of infrastructure & rigorous training of doctors and paramedical staff to handle all types of COVID & Non-COVID patients 24×7, has only been possible because of the dedicated team of doctors and paramedics. Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, Byculla, Divisional Railway Hospitals at Kalyan, Bhusaval, Pune, Nagpur and Solapur have trained doctors and paramedics so that all types of patients can be attended round the clock. Cleaning and sanitizing work is regularly done in all Railway hospitals to protect medical professionals and patients from infection.
An innovative Medical Assistant (RO)BOT is made to assist the medical professionals working at Dr. Kotnis Memorial Railway Hospital, Solapur. This robot has a moving face and free motion to move around. It automatically dispenses hand sanitizer, thermal screening the temperature of the patient, pulse oximeter for checking oxygen saturation. The doctor and patient can have two-way video communication and the robot has remote access from the doctor’s room. It also has a tray for carrying medicines and essentials. This medical assistant is developed inhouse by Solapur Division.
