New Delhi, March 1, 2021: In June last year, a clash between the PLA of China and the soldiers of the Indian Army in the Galwan Valley of Ladakh was witnessed. Nearly 10 months after the incident, the two armies withdrew as part of an agreement to reduce the tension on the border. In the meantime, on October 12 in Mumbai, located more than 1500 miles from Ladakh, there was a sudden power failure. Mumbai also came to a complete halt due to the power failure. However, after a few hours of effort, the power supply here was restored and Mumbai started running back on track. The incident was not normal.

A new revelation has come to light regarding this blackout in Mumbai. The New York Times quoted a research report as saying that China was behind the incident in Mumbai. It states that the aim was to create a blackout in India with the help of hackers. In this research, it has also come to the fore that within five days in October, these Chinese hackers have carried out more than 40 thousand cyber-attacks. These cyber-attacks were carried out against the IT companies and banking sectors besides India’s power grid.

According to a newspaper report, China did all this under a campaign that was run against the Power Grid Corporation. Electricity cut was the result of this in Mumbai. Through this campaign, China tried to send a message to India that if it becomes more aggressive on the border, it can get blacked out all over India.

This cyber-attack of China was also meant to give a message to India that it can stop them by attacking using malware on the different power grids in India. The research cited in the newspaper published in the newspaper said that at the time the incident took place, Chinese malware had penetrated into the systems that controlled the power supply in India. Their targets were thermal power plants and high voltage transmission substations.

According to the news of the New York Times, this research has come to light in the report of the US-based cyber security company ‘Recorded Future’. It talks about the Chinese incursion into India’s power supply. The US cyber security company ‘Recorded Future’ studies the use of the Internet with government agencies. It also states that most of the Chinese malware was never activated.

According to this research, due to lack of access of ‘Recorded Future’ inside the power system of India, it could not be investigated further. The company’s chief operating officer, Stuart Solomon, says that the incursion into India’s power supply and shutting it down was done by the Red Echo company of China’s state-run hackers. This company used highly advanced cyber hacking techniques to infiltrate more than a dozen transmission lines and power generation in India in a very secretive manner.
