High Demand For Mango Ahead of Akshaya Tritiya In Pune

Pune, 6th May 2024: Akshaya Tritiya, one of the three and a half Muhurtas, is on Friday (10th May). Against this backdrop, the demand for Ratnagiri Alphonso mangoes has surged in the fruit section of the Pune Market Yard. Consequently, imports and prices have increased by 10 %. Traders anticipate that mango prices will continue to rise for the next 4 days.

Approximately 10,000 to 11,000 boxes of mangoes from Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Raigad districts were brought into the market on Sunday (5th May), marking a 10 % increase from last week. Prices have also surged by 10 % compared to last week, ranging from 800 to 2500 rupees per box of 4 to 8 dozen raw mangoes in the market. Ready-to-eat mangoes are being sold at Rs 400 to Rs 800 per dozen, depending on quality and size. Traders anticipate a further increase in demand over the next two days.

The demand for Alphonso Mangoes has soared due to Akshaya Tritiya, with mangoes being purchased by retailers and domestic consumers in the city. Mango prices are also within reach of the common people, and the demand is expected to rise over the next two to three days, according to Arvind More, a trader of Ratnagiri Alphonso Mangoes at the Market Yard.

The influx of Karnataka Alphonso has increased as well. Due to the Lok Sabha elections and other factors, the arrival of Alphonso from Karnataka had decreased. However, inflow from Karnataka has surged over the last two to three days, with a significant influx even today (Day 5).

A total of 7 to 8 thousand boxes of 4 to 5 dozen boxes of Karnataka Alphonso and 20 to 25 thousand boxes of 2 dozen boxes were received. Rohan Ursal, a trader of Karnataka Alphonso, mentioned that a box of 4 to 5 dozen raw Hapus fetches a price of Rs 800 to 1400, depending on quality and size. He also stated that the inflow is expected to remain high for a month.
