CoWin Adds New Features To Accelerate Covid Vaccination

New Delhi, 7th June 2021: The vaccination drive in the country has reached a landmark of 23 crores in 141 days. To reach more people and lessen the digital divide, the Co-Win portal allows different modes to get vaccinated without using the internet.

 

Co-Win, which is the digital portal used to run India’s vaccination programme has added a few flexibilities, so that, more and more people could be vaccinated and the country could fight against Covid-19 together. These new features include:

 

1. On-site or walk-in registration for people (both individuals and groups of individuals) who do not have access to the internet or smartphones.

2. They can do an assisted registration through the Common Service Centers.

3. People can also have an assisted registration through the 1076 helpline/call centre.

4. There is also an option of special sessions to facilitate vaccinations of people who do not have any of the specified and identity cards.

5. There is a facility to organise special sessions for near-to-home vaccination for the elderly and people with disabilities.

6. Features for reserving vaccination laws for the second dose to ensure that people do get the second dose of vaccination within the recommended period after the first dose.

“The States/Union Territories through district administration are advised, to mobilize and bring people who reside in rural and remote areas to the vaccination centers, by arranging special transport whenever necessary, for fast related registration, appointment and vaccination. So that, they could also have easy access to vaccination” said Vikas Sheel, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health and Welfare

 

He urged the States/ UTs to take proactive measures to utilise all the features offered on Co-Win for registration and vaccination of people belonging to vulnerable groups who may not have digital literacy, have problems in access to the internet, and familiarity in using the Co-Win portal.
