Daund 2nd July 2026 : Daily commuters travelling on the Daund–Pune DEMU have urged the railway administration to address persistent overcrowding, frequent delays and inadequate passenger capacity, saying the existing service is no longer sufficient for the thousands who rely on it every day.

According to regular passengers, the DEMU trains remain heavily crowded throughout the week, particularly during peak office hours. Commuters say finding a seat is nearly impossible, and on many occasions, the coaches are so packed that there is not even enough space to sit on the floor.

“The Daund–Pune DEMU has become increasingly overcrowded. Most days, finding a seat is impossible, and passengers are forced to stand throughout the journey. We request the railway authorities to increase the number of coaches or introduce a dedicated local train service to ease the daily rush,” said a regular commuter.

Passengers have also raised concerns over recurring delays in evening services. Many office-goers, who complete work around 6 pm in Pune, reportedly reach their homes only around 9 pm because of late-running trains, significantly increasing their daily travel time and affecting their work-life balance.

“Frequent delays in the evening trains are causing serious inconvenience. Even after leaving the office at 6 pm, many of us reach home only around 9 pm. The situation becomes even worse during the monsoon when rainwater enters the coaches. We hope the railway administration takes immediate steps to improve punctuality and passenger facilities,” another daily passenger said.

The Daund–Pune route serves thousands of commuters every day, including students, working professionals, women, senior citizens, labourers and pregnant women. Despite the diverse and growing passenger base, commuters allege that the available coaches are inadequate to accommodate the daily rush, forcing many to travel in cramped and uncomfortable conditions.

Travellers say the situation deteriorates further during the monsoon season, when rainwater reportedly enters the coaches, making the 2 to 2.5-hour journey even more difficult. Passengers claim the overcrowded and wet conditions create discomfort and raise concerns about safety and hygiene.

Commuters have appealed to the railway administration to either introduce a dedicated Pune–Daund suburban local train service or increase the number of coaches on the existing DEMU trains to meet rising demand. They have also requested that train services be operated punctually to ensure a safer, more comfortable and reliable commute for thousands of daily passengers.

Passengers expressed hope that the railway authorities would take note of their concerns and implement measures to improve services on one of the region’s busiest commuter rail corridors.
