New Delhi, 9th May 2025: The security situation between India and Pakistan has sharply escalated, with both countries appearing to be on the brink of war. On Friday, air strike alerts were issued for Chandigarh and Ambala — two key defence locations in northern India — prompting heightened security measures.
Chandigarh houses the Western Command of the Indian Army and an office of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), while Ambala is home to a strategically important Indian Air Force station. Authorities have taken precautionary steps in light of potential threats.

Meanwhile, in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district, villages within a 20-kilometre radius of the Pakistan border are being evacuated. Jaisalmer, which hosts a critical military station, shares nearly 500 km of international border with Pakistan. Officials confirmed that the evacuation is a preventive measure amid the rising tensions.
In a significant development, the Border Security Force (BSF) neutralised seven terrorists attempting to infiltrate through the International Border in Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Retaliatory fire was reported on Pakistan’s Dhandhar post.

The situation intensified after Pakistan launched coordinated drone and missile attacks late Thursday night on 11 locations across Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Among the targeted sites were the Jammu Airport and the Pathankot Air Force Station, hit by Pakistani suicide drones.

India’s air defence systems — including the S-400 Triumf and Akash missile systems — successfully intercepted the incoming threats. More than 50 Pakistani drones have reportedly been shot down along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB). Unconfirmed reports suggest that a Pakistani fighter jet was also shot down near Pathankot, though the government has not officially acknowledged the incident.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was briefed on the unfolding situation by top military leadership — Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also scheduled to meet with senior officials from the BSF and CISF to assess the internal security response.

As tensions mount, India’s armed forces remain on high alert, with civilian safety and strategic readiness now top priorities.
