Despite High Prices, Imported Fruits Demand On The Rise In Pune

Pune, 30th May 2022: A large number of foreign fruits have entered the Pune fruit market at present. Also, the foreign apple season is currently on the market. Due to the colour, quality, taste and durability of fruits in the market, foreign fruits are becoming popular among consumers. Among the fruits, mainly apples, dragon fruit, cherries, pears, large grapes, sweet tamarind and various fruits are most in demand.

 

Fruits from abroad, which are currently different than usual, are attracting the attention of everyone. Therefore, despite the high price, the market demand for these fruits is increasing. Demand for this speciality has grown significantly as a result of recent corporate scandals in Thailand, China, Italy, New Zealand and South Africa. The fruits have started arriving in the market and sellers are being questioned about buying foreign fruits.

Exports of foreign fruits have arrived in the city from Mumbai and Chennai. Reportedly, the demand has doubled this year. Avocado is a fruit specially used for diet. These fruits are also arriving in large quantities in malls along with fruit markets.

 

All the foreign goods have always attracted the common man. Fruits are no exception. As a result, various fruits from all over the world can be seen in the market throughout the year. The market receives 70-80 tonnes of foreign fruits on Sunday (May 29) and about 30-50 tonnes on other days.

Salim Bagwan, Merchant, Market Yard said, “Demand for fruits has increased significantly in the last 7-8 years. About 30 to 40 percent of foreign fruits enter the market as compared to other fruits. Exotic fruits are in high demand in the market as they have a distinct taste. Although the rates are high, their demand is increasing day by day.”

 

“These fruits are imported to India via airway and waterway. Fruits like cherry, apricot, apricot, blueberry, raspberry etc. are shipped by air. So, all other fruits are shipped to Mumbai and Chennai ports. From there all these fruits are sent across the country. Most apples are imported in the market,” said Baba Bibwe, Head of Fruit Department, Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Pune.
