Differences between the top commanders of Indian Army will be investigated, Army Chief orders Court of Inquiry
New Delhi, February 2, 2021: The Indian Army has ordered a Court of Inquiry (COI) to look into the differences between an Army commander and his second-in-command. In September, Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane had given the responsibility of bridging the gap between two senior officers to a senior lieutenant general.
Central Army Commander Lieutenant General IS Ghuman will conduct the COI, officials said. There were differences between the General Officer Commanding in Chief (GOC-in-C) of the South Western Command at Jaipur and his Chief of Staff regarding the roles and responsibilities of the various offices at the Command Headquarters.
The head of the South Western Command is Lieutenant General Alok Keller, an armoured corps officer. His second in command is Lieutenant General KK Repswal from the Corps of Engineers.
After receiving representations from both the three-star rank officers last year, Army Chief sent a detailed report in September to the then Deputy Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General SK Saini, for mediation. Saini retired on January 31.
The Jaipur-based South Western Command has about 130,000 troops and guards the border of Pakistan and India in Rajasthan and Punjab.
