Pune, 13th January 2023: On Friday (January 12), Pune International Airport launched the live testing of DigiYatra, a new virtual facial verification technology.

Based on facial recognition technology, the DigiYatra system can be accessed through a registered application and promises to create smooth and contactless passenger processing at airports using facial recognition technology (FRT). It has been created to speed up the boarding process for travellers.

In December 2022, DigiYatra was introduced at Delhi T3, Bengaluru, and Varanasi. In 2023, the system will be introduced at airports in Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Vijayawada.

The airport intends to employ the technology to simplify the security and check-in procedures for travellers, enabling a more comfortable and convenient trip.

Before a choice is reached regarding whether to permanently adopt the system, several weeks of testing are anticipated.
The ID must be generated using appropriate data to register on the app. When purchasing tickets, the DigiYatra ID will be shared. The airport of departure will share this id and passenger information from airline firms.

According to Santosh Dhoke, Director of Pune International Airport, the DigiYatra live testing will begin at the D1 gate on January 12 and last through January 31.
