New Delhi, December 3, 2020: Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for a strike on December 11 against the Central Council of Indian Medicine’s recent notification which allows Ayurveda post-graduate practitioners to be trained to perform general surgical procedures.

On Tuesday, at the IMA Bhawan in New Delhi, the Indian Medical Association announced that there would be a protest against the permission of legal practice of surgery by Ayurveda physicians. To allow this, the notification of CCIM and the formation of four committees by the NITI Aayog will only encourage ‘mixopathy’. The IMA has demanded the withdrawal of the notification and the cancellation of the formation of four committees.

Therefore, on December 11 from 6 am to 6 pm, doctors will be on strike as a protest. During this time all non-essential and non-Covid services will be closed. However, Emergency services will continue.

The National President of the IMA, Dr Rajan Sharma, said, “the National Education Policy 2020 has come out as a big proof of the four committees of the NITI Aayog advocating medical pluralism and blending all medical systems. One system policy will completely eliminate modern medical systems.”

According to the IMA, there will be protests across the country in small groups from 8 to 12 noon on 8 December. During this time, doctors will wear white aprons and stethoscopes and shout slogans against ‘mixopathy’. While on 11 December, will stop the service and protest.
