Fire on Boeing 737 Max 8 Forces Emergency Evacuation at Denver Airport; Six Injured, Investigation Underway
Denver (USA), 26th July 2025: A serious aviation mishap was narrowly avoided at Denver International Airport on Saturday when an American Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft was forced to abort takeoff following a landing gear malfunction that led to a fire in the rear section of the plane.
The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. local time (2:15 a.m. IST) as the flight was preparing for departure to Miami. According to officials, the aircraft was carrying 173 passengers and 6 crew members at the time of the emergency. The crew initiated emergency evacuation procedures using slides, ensuring all occupants exited the aircraft safely.
While no fatalities were reported, six individuals sustained minor injuries, with one person requiring hospitalization, officials confirmed. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and American Airlines have launched a joint investigation to determine the exact cause of the failure.
American Airlines later issued a statement confirming the aircraft experienced a technical fault in its landing gear tires, prompting immediate action from the cockpit crew. The affected plane has been taken out of service, and a replacement aircraft was arranged to transport passengers to Miami.
The Denver Fire Department also responded swiftly, managing to extinguish the fire before it could spread further. “Our team contained the blaze at the rear of the plane and ensured that emergency protocols were fully executed,” a fire official said.
Due to the incident, the airport imposed a temporary ground stop between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., leading to disruptions in 87 flights. Airport authorities stated that normal operations resumed later in the afternoon.

This is not the first such incident involving the airline this year. In March 2025, an American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at the same airport due to an engine issue. Additionally, just a day before this latest mishap, passengers aboard Southwest Flight 1496 experienced a sudden nose-dive mid-air between Burbank and Las Vegas, reportedly to avoid a potential collision. The maneuver left several passengers injured after being thrown against the cabin ceiling.
Aviation experts have raised concerns about the Boeing 737 Max 8, which has previously come under scrutiny for multiple safety issues. Notably, the deadly Air India crash in Ahmedabad on June 12 involved a Boeing 787-8, where the aircraft crashed just two minutes after takeoff, resulting in 270 fatalities.
