Football: Pune District Team Runners Up; Mumbai Team lifts title
Pune, February 17: Mumbai Team defeated Pune District Team 3-1 to win the Maharashtra State Inter-District Championship Sub-Junior Group (Under 13) Football Tournament organized by the Western India Football Association (WIFA). Pune District Team had to settle for the runner-up position. Last year, Pune Team secured third position in the tournament.
In the close final match of this tournament held at Lal Bahadur Shastri College, Dharamabad, Nanded, Pune District Team had an aggressive start. They created pressure on Mumbai Team’s defense by scoring a goal in the goal area. Kaushal Bagale scored in the 12th minute to open Pune Team’s account and take a significant 1-0 lead. Pune team maintained this lead in the first half. In the second half, Mumbai team played better from behind. Ranveer Kumar scored a goal in the 31st minute to level Mumbai team 1-1. After that, Yahya P. scored another goal five minutes later to give Mumbai team a 2-1 lead. At the end of the match, Mit Singh scored a goal to increase Mumbai team’s lead to 3-1 and confirm the team’s title.
Earlier, while making their way to the final round, Pune team had defeated Kolhapur team 4-3 in the semi-final round, Nanded team 12-0 in the semi-final round, and Raigad team 2-0 in the pre-semi-final round.
