From Trainees to Warriors: Agniveers Complete Rigorous Training At Bombay Sappers Pune

Khadki, 5th August 2023: The inaugural batch of Agniveers from the Government’s flagship ‘Agnipath Scheme’ marked a significant milestone today as they graduated from the revered Drill Ground of The Bombay Sappers. The poignant ceremony was highlighted by a splendid parade performed by these newly trained soldiers, poised to take their place in various units across the nation.
A substantial portion of them will be assigned to combat engineer units stationed in field areas, fortifying India’s defense capabilities. Amidst the watchful gaze of proud parents, the young soldiers marched in perfect harmony to the resonant notes of ‘Hum Bombay Sapper Hain’, showcasing their honor at becoming part of one of the most esteemed Regiments of the Indian Army.
Over the course of 31 demanding weeks, the Agniveers underwent rigorous and intensive training, encompassing physical fitness, combat engineering techniques, and fundamental trade skills integral to a combat-ready sapper soldier. The distinguished Agniveer Kuyte Vaibhav Gajanan emerged at the forefront, securing the top spot in the Overall Order of Merit and receiving the esteemed Comdt’s Gold Medal.
Agniveer Jagjit Singh and Agniveer Gurmukh Singh were honored with the Comdt’s Silver and Bronze Medals respectively. Additionally, Agniveer Amit Prajapati’s exceptional drill skills earned him the title of Best in Drill, affording him the prestigious honor of commanding the Parade.
Brigadier DG Patwardhan, the Commandant of BEG and Centre Khadki, presided over the ceremonial parade, commending the Agniveers for their remarkable performance. In his address, he emphasized the importance of the soldierly virtues and principles instilled in them throughout their training. Brigadier Patwardhan encouraged the young soldiers to remain unwaveringly devoted to the nation, ready to serve in any capacity at all times.
In recognition of the parents’ contribution to the nation through their children’s service, they were bestowed with Gaurav Padaks, symbolizing their honor and sacrifice. The parents, visibly moved by the transformation of their young boys into immaculate soldiers, expressed their gratitude to the Training Centre for effecting this remarkable change within a relatively short timeframe.
