Ayur (Kerala), 20th July 2022: A shocking incident has come to light in Kerala yesterday where girls were asked to remove their bras during the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). A girl’s father alleged that his daughter had to get a dupatta from her mother. While another girl alleged that she used her hair to cover herself.

This incident allegedly took place at a private examination centre at Ayur in the Kollam district of Kerala.

According to a report in ‘The Indian Express,’ a girl’s father while talking said that it was a painful experience for him. The incident forced him to file an FIR with the local police.

He said, “I wanted to register a case so that no student should face such a dilemma in future. It was heartbreaking to see my child tremble so much.”

He added, “I am satisfied with the response of the central and state governments. It seems they are taking the matter seriously.”

Kerala Higher Education Minister R Bindu, in a letter to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, expressed his “disappointment” at the attack on the dignity and honour of girl students appearing in the examination. She said she ‘strongly recommends’ action against the agency that was in charge of conducting the exams.

Meanwhile, the Kerala State Human Rights Commission also ordered a probe into the incident and directed the Kollam Rural SP to file a report within 15 days. The Union Minister is yet to react to the incident.

A senior NTA official said, “We have not received any complaint regarding this matter. Based on claims in media reports, an immediate report was sought from the centre superintendent and supervisor. They have informed that no such incident has taken place and the complaint is fictitious and has been filed with malicious intent.”

A senior education ministry official said that the NTA is sending a team to Kerala to probe the incident. The official told news agency PTI that the dress code of NEET does not require the removal of innerwear and care is taken to ensure sensitivity to gender, culture and religion during the screening of candidates.
