Google Maps Update Features: Users Can Navigate Small Roads, Flyovers, EV Charging Stations, and Even Book Metro Tickets
New Delhi, 29th October 2024: Google Maps is an essential tool for providing location information, checking navigation, and discovering new places. It is particularly valuable for those driving and exploring unfamiliar areas, as it simplifies navigation significantly.
To enhance user experience, Google Maps has rolled out an update with several new features. These updates include flyover information, navigation for smaller roads, finding Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations, and even booking metro tickets. Users can also report road accidents directly on the app.
The new Flyover Callout feature assists drivers in navigating flyovers while driving. This feature will be especially useful for those in new areas, helping them choose between taking a flyover or using the lower road. Initially, these features will be available to users with Android smartphones or Android Auto units in 40 cities across India starting this week. Both two-wheeler and four-wheeler navigation routes will display these callouts.
Google Maps now provides information about EV charging stations as well. The company has partnered with Ather, ElectricPe, Kazam, and Statiq to offer details on over 8,000 charging stations nationwide. Users will see information about the station, including company details and plug types. Additionally, drivers can check whether a station is open in real-time. For the first time, Google has included information about EV charging stations specifically for two-wheelers.
Google is introducing a new AI navigation feature that estimates the width of smaller roads, simplifying navigation for four-wheelers. This AI model uses satellite imagery to identify narrow roads and incorporates road information, distances between buildings, sidewalks, and street view data. This feature will initially be available for Android users in Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Indore, and Guwahati.
In a special update, Google Maps users will now be able to book metro tickets directly through the app. The company has partnered with ONDC and Namma Yatri, enabling commuters in Kochi and Chennai to book tickets for metro lines seamlessly.
