HIV Cases On Rise In Pune, 1,249 Deaths And Over 10K Positive Case Reported In Last 6 Months
Pune 28th Sept 2023: The increasing number of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) cases has raised concerns in Pune as there is a significant rise in the number of deaths reported in the last six months. According to the official data, a total of 1,249 deaths of HIV positive patients have been reported in the last six months while 10,535 positive cases were also reported since April this year.
According to officials, the district reported 1,172 deaths and 10,996 positive cases last year while 1,035 deaths and 11,091 positive cases were reported in 2021. The number is likely to double this year considering the cases reported in the last six months. The government provides free of cost treatment and medicines for the HIV patients across government facilities in Maharashtra.
The experts have blamed unhealthy lifestyle of positive patients for early death of HIV patients while unsafe sexual practices is blamed for increasing number of positive cases. The doctors also said that due to unhealthy lifestyle the immunity of many of these patients reduces over the time and they get infected by other diseases leading to early death.
