IMD To Set Up 200 Weather Monitoring Stations Including 10 in Maharashtra

Pune, 23 March 2021: The India meteorology department (IMD) currently sets up 200 monitoring stations at various places in the country to observe the weather conditions. Ten such stations will be set up in Maharashtra. It will help to get accurate data on weather conditions. The official has stated that centres are expected to activate before the rainy season.

The IMD decided to set up these rain monitoring stations to help the farmers with current weather conditions in their respective areas. These centres are automatically operated and will provide information regarding soil moisture, temperature, speed, and direction of the wind and evaporation. It will help farmers to understand the weather condition and plan accordingly.

“The centres are expected to start from this rainy season. In Maharashtra, the stations will be set up at Palghar, Solapur, Nandurbar, Aurangabad, Osmanabad, Washim, Nagpur, Gadchiroli, Buldhana, and Bhandara said K.S. Hosalikar, chief scientist”, equipment department of IMD.

Meanwhile, on World Weather Day, the climate data portal will be inaugurated by the IMD, by the hands of Dr Madhavan Nayar Rajeevan, Secretary, Earth Science. Director-General of the meteorology department, Dr Mrutyunjay Mahapatra, will be present on this occasion.
