Income Tax Return Filing Deadline Pushed to September 16, 2025
New Delhi, 16th September 2025: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has announced a further extension of the due date for filing Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the Assessment Year (AY) 2025-26. The deadline, originally set for 31st July 2025 and later extended to 15th September 2025, has now been pushed by one more day to 16th September 2025.
The Ministry of Finance confirmed the development through an official press release. CBDT spokesperson V. Rajitha stated that the extension was made to facilitate last-minute changes in the filing system.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Income Tax Department added that the e-filing portal will undergo maintenance from 12:00 AM to 2:30 AM on 16th September 2025 to enable necessary updates.
Taxpayers who are yet to file their returns for AY 2025-26 now have until midnight of 16th September to complete the process.
