Delhi, 20th April 2023: In the 28th match of the season played at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi, Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by four wickets with four balls remaining. Delhi achieved their victory after a wait of three weeks and six games.

KKR set a modest target of 128 runs for Delhi, dismissing six of their batsmen and taking the match to the last over. Axar Patel fought till the end for DC and secured their victory after three weeks with his knock of 21 runs off 21 balls. Captain David Warner scored 54 runs and Manish Pandey scored 21 runs for Delhi. Varun Chakravarthy, Anukul Roy, and Nitish Rana each took two wickets for KKR.

Warner and Prithvi Shaw gave Delhi an aggressive start as they chased down the 128-run target set by KKR. However, the partnership of 38 runs was broken by Varun Chakravarthy, who dismissed Shaw for 13. Warner and Mitchell Marsh completed Delhi’s half-century, but Nitish Rana dismissed Marsh for two runs, and Anukul Roy sent Phillips Salt back to the pavilion for five runs.

Warner then took charge of the innings and completed his half-century, taking the team to 83 runs in 11 overs. But after the milestone, Varun Chakravarthy dismissed him for 54 runs. Manish Pandey and Axar Patel were at the crease and they took Delhi past the century mark. However, when 19 runs were needed for victory, Pandey was dismissed by Anukul Roy after scoring 21 runs.

Later, Aman Hakim Khan was dismissed for zero by Nitish Rana. The match was now 12 runs off 12 balls. Skipper Nitish Rana rushed in to bowl the 19th over. Axar and Lalit took four runs off the first four balls, but Axar missed the fifth ball. He kept the strike with a run-off Nitin Rana’s last ball.

In the last over, Delhi needed seven runs to win, and Kulwant Khejrolia was entrusted with the responsibility of bowling. Axar took two runs on the very first ball and the same on the second ball. A no-ball gave Delhi an extra run and a free hit. Needing two runs off five balls for victory, Axar ran the two runs to win the match.
