IPL 2023: Hyderabad Won Their First Match This Season! Punjab Looses Despite Shikhar’s Unbeaten 99 Runs

Hyderabad, 9th April 2023: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered their first win in IPL 2023 at yeh 14th match of the season at their home ground in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

 

After Mayank Markande’s remarkable bowling, Rahul Tripathi’s batting gave Punjab Kings (PBKS) a taste of defeat. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan stood his ground as Punjab’s batsmen floundered and scored an unbeaten 99 to set a target of 144 runs. Hyderabad didn’t get off to a great start, but Rahul Tripathi sealed the victory with some good shots.

 

Bhuvneshwar Kumar took the first wicket of Punjab Kings opener Prabhasimran Singh on the very first ball. Then Marco Jansen took the wickets of Matthew Short (1) and Jitesh Sharma (4) in two overs. Sam Curran (22) was also sent to the pavilion. Sikandar Raza (5) and Shah Rukh Khan (4) were eliminated.

 

Mayank Markande took four wickets for 15 runs. But, Punjab’s captain stood on top of the field. With Mohit Rathee, Shikhar put on a fifty + run partnership for the tenth wicket. Punjab scored 143 for nine wickets in 20 overs. Dhawan scored an unbeaten 99 off 66 balls with 12 fours and five sixes.

 

Harry Brook came in to open today with Mayank Agarwal and he also hit some good shots. But, Arshdeep Singh took the wicket of Brook (13). Rahul Tripathi, who came after that has not been able to do anything special this season and this chance would give him an opportunity to make a big inning.

 

Mayank (21), who was playing well, was dismissed by Rahul Chahar to give SRH a big blow. But, Tripathi changed gears after this wicket and hit five fours to take Hyderabad to 68 for 2 in 10 overs.

 

Tripathi was no match for the Punjab bowlers today and completed his half-century in 35 balls. He completed his 11th IPL half-century with a six.

 

Mohit Rathee, who was playing his first match today, was targeted by SRH’s Tripathi, who scored 29 runs in his two overs. 21 of these runs came in the second over.

 

Captain Aiden Markram also played a brilliant game. The duo put on a 100-run partnership in 52 balls to ensure Hyderabad’s victory by scoring 145 with a loss of two wickets in 17.1 overs. Tripathi scored an unbeaten 74 off 48 balls with 10 fours and three sixes. While Markram scored 37 not out in 21 balls.
