Khopoli: Restrictions Imposed On Tourists Visiting Zenith And Adoshi Waterfalls
Khopoli, 27th June 2023: In response to the unfortunate incidents at Zenith and Adoshi waterfalls, where several tourists lost their lives or faced dangerous situations, authorities have taken action to ensure the safety of visitors. The lack of security measures at these remote natural attractions has raised concerns about the well-being of tourists.
As a result, an order has been issued under Section 144 (1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Karjat, Raigad district.
The order, which is effective till August 15, 2023, prohibits various activities to safeguard tourists. During this period, it is strictly forbidden to consume alcohol, possess or transport liquor, or engage in open alcohol consumption in the vicinity of the waterfalls. Additionally, certain actions that can endanger public safety, such as taking selfies or filming in traffic-affecting locations, diving or swimming in fast-flowing or deep water, and sitting under dangerously falling water, are also prohibited.
To maintain public order and prevent environmental pollution, throwing food, garbage, glass, plastic bottles, thermocol, and other materials in public places is strictly forbidden. Furthermore, any form of harassment or indecent behavior towards women, playing loud music systems or DJ sets in public spaces, and engaging in activities that cause noise, air, or water pollution are strictly prohibited.
In an effort to ensure the safety of visitors, the administration has also imposed restrictions on vehicular access to the areas surrounding the waterfalls. Two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and six-wheelers (except those involved in essential services) are prohibited from entering the area within a 1-kilometer radius of the dam, lake, or waterfall.
Shirish Pawar, the Police Inspector of Khopoli Police Station, has made a serious appeal to citizens to adhere to these restrictions. Pawar emphasized the importance of respecting the safety measures put in place to prevent further accidents and loss of life.
The incidents that occurred during the previous monsoon season, including the unfortunate deaths of three tourists at Zenith Falls and the numerous instances of tourists getting stranded in the river bed, highlighted the pressing need for improved safety measures at these natural attractions. The order and restrictions are part of a broader effort by the authorities to ensure the well-being of visitors and prevent any future accidents or mishaps.

Police said that tourists planning to visit Zenith and Adoshi waterfalls during this period are urged to prioritize their safety and adhere to the regulations. It is crucial to understand the potential dangers associated with these natural areas, including the possibility of landslides, and to avoid risky behavior that may lead to financial or life-threatening consequences.
The administration and local authorities will continue to monitor the situation closely and enforce the necessary measures to guarantee the safety and well-being of all visitors to these tourist spots. It is paramount that tourists cooperate and play their part in maintaining a safe and secure environment for everyone, the cop said.
